Obama on the Tonight Show
March 20, 2009I was proud last night. Do you want to know why I was proud? I watched the Tonight show with Jay Leno and saw him interview President Obama. And this is not another rant about how he will make a great president or how I hate Sarah Palin or yay for minorities. I am proud for a really simple reason. He is normal. He is a normal human being who can kick back, make jokes, form sentences and make statements that did not have to be pre-written by some speech writer. He did not memorize sound bites before he went ok. He probably wasn’t planning about talking about the new dog or his horrible bowling score. It just happened the way a normal conversation takes place. It is slightly weird that I am proud of something so simple as a decent conversation between a talk show host and another human being. Maybe it was because I am 22 meaning Bush went into office when I was 14. 14-15 was when I started paying attention to politics. All I have really known is a president who fumbles his words, makes bad jokes, has a weird, almost fake, Texas accent (when he is not even from Texas) and basically does not seem like one of us, one of the people, an average joe. Now I am not calling Obama an average joe in terms of intellect or integrity, I mean he is someone who speaks and acts like a normal human. I should not be proud of this aspect because I personally think it should be the norm for a president. A president should be able to relate his ideas to the people without saying things wrong or having to rely on sound bites. He should be able to state his beliefs and policies off the top of his head. I don’t get lost when Obama speaks. I don’t get distracted. I don’t want to give up and change the channel. I don’t shake my head at half of the nation who voted from him. I’m just proud that the nation picked him. He is articulate and personable and has some great ideas and is willing to go the distance to put them into action. Let’s see what happens.
Failed Auto Bailout. New Business Model. Arctic Warming
December 17, 2008Rant time!
There are some articles that I have read over the past few days that have been rolling around in my head and have twisted themselves together.
It started with the whole auto bail-out. Honestly, I don’t want that many Americans to lose their jobs but the companies they work for that need assistance have no hope. They are selling cars that the majority of Americans don’t want. I own a toyota and my next car, is going to be a toyota. A lot of people I know feel that way toward toyota and honda and other foreign car companies. Why? Fuel efficiency ? Innovation. Alternative fuel efficient cars. Foreign car companies are thinking ahead. That is when I came across Thomas Friendman’s article “While Detroit Slept“. If we were to do the auto bailout he stated:
“our bailout of Detroit will be remembered as the equivalent of pouring billions of dollars of taxpayer money into the mail-order-catalogue business on the eve of the birth of eBay.”
That’s when it hit me. These companies need a plan to be able to receive aid, but I bet none of them included looking into more fuel efficient cars. Or figuring out a better business model for the American auto industry. Click on the link above to read about the Better Place electric car charging system that Friedman talks about. Now there is an idea.
Pouring money into the auto industry would fail. It would do no good because they would just keep doing things the exact same way they have been causing taxpayers dollars to be flushed down the toilet. So I was happy when I read the article “Senate Abandons Automaker Bailout Bid” the other day. I mean I feel bad for all those losing their jobs but taxpayers should not be used to keep a company afloat for another couple of months until they fail again.
But after this article I started to think about how I wish we could give them money only to be used to create fuel efficient cars. Then I read “Arctic warming ‘points to ice-free summers’“. And I thought, well great. Global warming and we can’t get our American auto companies to even think ahead to creating environmentally safe cars. “The Arctic had been predicted to see ice-free summers by 2070, but many scientists are now predicting it could happen within the next 20 years, according to the newspaper.” This is where I wish that we could bailout the American companies so long as they make better cars. Electric, Solar, Wind, Hydrogen . . . whatever. Anything. We can do better. We need to. We need something better than we have now.
Impeach Obama . . . Already?
December 12, 2008I came across this website that made me upset. Lots of things do, but this one in particular. It’s a section of t-shirts on CafePress that all say Impeach Obama. Not only are there t-shirts but there are hats, doggie bowls, bags, children’s bibs . . . you name it with the words “Impeach Obama” written all over them. Common. Seriously. Already. The guy hasn’t even stepped upon his red, white and blue thrown and people already want to impeach him.
That’s like the other day when I heard people saying that they were upset that Obama isn’t living up to his word. Well, he is not in office yet. Get over it. Give him a chance to get in office and theeeen judge him. That’s all I’m saying.
Prop 8. Do it for your children.
December 12, 2008Smart Voters
November 4, 2008I have figured it out. I have solved the riddle. I know why Obama is so focused on education. Look at this poll from www.gallup.com.
Obama wants everyone to go to college. To have “the opportunity”. Oh look at Obama, looking out for the American People. Unselfish. Humble. Caring. Giving.
WHATEVER
I know what you are doing. I read the above poll. Educated people are voting Democrat. Yeah, that’s right. I said it. You are greedy sir. You want to allow everyone to get educated so that you can secure a 2nd term in 2012. Finally the truth comes out. You don’t care about the people or about their actual education. You just know that people, when allowed to open their minds and understand society and what is best for it, will take that new ideology and vote for you. Well sir I never, in my entire life, thought I would see this day. A day when a politician wants something for the people but really only to benefit himself. Shame on you for tricking people into getting an education by telling them it is a great opportunity for themselves just so there can be one less Republican. Shhhhaaaaammmmeeee!
Young Voters Respond
November 3, 2008I am taking a political communication class right now and we recently had an assignment called “Young Voters Respond” where we had to interview 12 18-24 year olds asking questions about their political involvement and opinions. I made a little movie out of all of the interviews and it turned out pretty good. I thought other might be interested so here it is.
It is the first video I have ever made so comment and let me know what you think!
OUALIFIED!!!

Palin in charge of the PTA for the Senate
October 23, 2008If someone were to ask me why I would not want Sarah Palin to be the Vice President of the United States or why I think she is not qualified for the position, I could answer it with one sentence. She doesn’t even know what the VP does. Watch!
In charge of the Senate. Really? I thought tie-breaker. I think that question was on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader. I bet her kid even knew the answer. One of them. Pick one.
I go back to my point about Obama being an elitist, he is just smarter than her. So is Joe Biden. What is wrong with wanting some smart people in the White House. There should be some IQ test before the primaries and before the conventions. I don’t understand why that has never been an issue. I am not calling Sarah Palin incompetent or stupid. I am just saying I do not think she should be elected for a job that she has little knowledge about. When a normal person goes in for a job interview they tend to do a little research to see what they are applying for so they don’t look ridiculous during the job interview. Maybe she should have done the same.
On a side note: What pink furry animal did she hunt and kill to make that hideous jacket? Joan Rivers would have a field day with that.
Palin Warming
October 23, 2008Apparently Sarah Palin doesn’t really know what she is talking about, big surprise. A recent article on the Huffington Post shares when Sarah Palin said she didn’t think man made activities were linked to Global Warming and then in a later interview with Katie Couric Palin clamed “You know, there are man’s activities that can be contributed to the issues that we’re dealing with now, with these impacts. I’m not going to solely blame all of man’s activities on changes in climate because the world’s weather patterns are cyclical and over our history we have seen changes there.” So to clarify things Steve Crupi on News 3 in Las Vegas asked Sarah Palin the same question. There is a video of it on the above link but here is the answer to the question asked about man-made causes.
Q: I’ve also heard you hint that you do think there might be some man-made causes that are contributing to this. Can you describe what those are?
PALIN: Right, well what I have said about this is really the debate at some point, had better shift to, no matter the cause, whether it all be attributed to man’s activities or just the natural cycle of climate changes in our earth’s history. We have seen this before.
hmmmmmm odd wording of an answer. Still better than your answer from back in your pageant days.
